My name is Margarita Silos, and I am honored to introduce myself as the new Indigenous Education Advocate for Del Norte County. This position is supported by the Northern California Indian Development Council (NCIDC) and the ACLU of Northern California. My office is located at the Del Norte Indian Education Center in Crescent City.
My role is centered on supporting Native American students and their families. I work directly with parents, guardians, Tribes, and schools to help ensure that Indigenous students receive the educational opportunities, services, and treatment they deserve. I help parents navigate school systems, understand their rights, communicate with schools, and address concerns related to academics, special education, discipline, or cultural needs. If your student needs support, you do not have to navigate it alone.
The Indigenous Education Advocate position was created to promote educational equity in Del Norte County. I provide Know Your Rights trainings, student and family advocacy, and work community partners to improve outcomes for Indigenous youth.
My goal is to ensure that Native students feel safe, supported, valued and that parents have a strong, knowledgeable partner when challenges arise.
I look forward to meeting you, listening to your concerns, and working together to create stronger, more equitable educational pathways for your children.
Please feel free to reach out anytime. You and your student do not have to navigate these challenges alone — I am here to advocate alongside you.
